UPDATED! Alaska Creative Writing Student Scholarship

North Words will award a scholarship to a student from an Alaska university campus or an Alaskan student studying elsewhere for the May 28-31, 2025 conference. The scholarship consists of free entry plus a $200 travel stipend. The application period is Jan. 1 – March 1, 2025. Applications should be emailed to northwordsinfo@gmail.com by 11:59 pm on March 1 and must include the following:

  • a cover letter stating need and what they hope to learn from attending NWWS
  • letter of reference from a creative writing professor
  • work samples (3-5 poems or 10-15 pages of prose)
  • contact information (email and phone) and proof of Alaska residency or enrollment in an Alaska university

The North Words organizing faculty will select one student winner to have their entry fee waived, with a $200 travel stipend. Award will be announced by April.

Skagway Arts Council Scholarships for Skagway residents

The Skagway Arts Council offers up to two scholarships of up to $300 to individuals who have lived in Skagway for at least one year and want to attend North Words. More information and applications are available on the SAC BlogSpot.
